Summer Pest Control for Pets

Pets fight summertime bugs too. While we have covered protective meds for pets in previous posts, Poomba would like to remind you about a natural remedy that might be harmful to pets.

To combat mosquitoes, humans use citronella in the form of oils, candles, coils, and sprays. This repellent can be toxic to pets, so these products should be applied far away from cats and dogs. Pets should not be allowed to lick citronella and should not ingest or breathe it in any form. Contact with citronella can cause severe respiratory illnesses such as pneumonia, and ingestion can harm your pet’s nervous system.

The good news is that with a little attention, humans can safely use this remedy and pets can still enjoy the outdoors.
